Due to the harsh nature of mesothelioma, it causes a large amount of trauma and grief to those diagnosed, and their families who are affected.  This event has caused many families to seek litigation as a form of small form of potential material award to partially makeup for their loss.  Recently, a New York family on November 2010 was awarded around $1 million for the loss of their family member as his death was said to the jury to be “wrongfully caused.”

The man used to work on tugboats for around 30 years, and this work exposed him to a large amount of asbestos due to many of the boats having gaskets which contained the material.  This situation led to the litigation, and the jury found this to be unfair exposure.  Anyone who is concerned they might’ve been exposed to similar toxins should get checkout out immediately as mesothelioma deaths are expected to peak within the next 10 years.  Early diagnosis is essential to combating the cancer.
