Many are probably wondering how rapidly asbestos used to be used throughout the United States and various other countries. The United States formerly used asbestos in large-scale manner, throughout all kinds of different equipment. Asbestos materials are known to have been used in ships, shipyards, engine and boiler rooms, brakes, gaskets, valves, cements, adhesives, pipe coverings, navigation rooms, and likely many more. Asbestos was such an accepted and liked material by the military prior to the 1970s that it was basically a mandatory material in many of their forms of equipment.
This just goes to show how widespread asbestos was used prior to the discover of its risks and toxins. It’s obviously now avoided for the most part, but it was at a time a material that was liked and not known to cause much harm. Thus, harming many people’s health in the process.
