Mesothelioma is a cancer that begins to grow in the mesothelium. The primary, and foremost cause of mesothelioma is asbestos exposure.  Asbestos is a naturally occuring mineral that is able to resist heat and fire, which made it a popular material for a while before the discovery of its dangers. Asbestos exposure can also contribute to the development of diseases like lung cancer.  It’s a very toxic material. The average diagnosis and/or discovery of mesothelioma’s existence in the body is, unfortunately, very poor.  As it’s a slowly progressing disease, mesothelioma is usually diagnosed once it has reached the latter stages.

People diagnosed with it have the option of receiving typical treatments, or participating in clinical trials to help doctors learn more about the newer treatments that are available, and work to help finding a cure.
