Chemotherapy is generally performed on mesothelioma patients by inserting it through a vein. This method allows for the chemo to begin absorbing into the bloodstream at a rapid pace. Medicine is sometimes also delivered in a catheter or port. Sometimes a plastic disk will be placed under the chest as well, and the process will be done by putting a catheter in the disk.
The abdominal region can also be used as a site for injections of intraperitoneal chemotherapy. A catheter is normally used in this procedure also, and it’s used to transport drugs to the abdominal cavity.
